Autism: The Answer May Be Reflected in the Mirror Neuron

(PSYCHIATRIC TIMES) - Anyone who listens to Imus in the Morning on WNBC radio (660 AM, weekdays) heard about autism during the last months of 2005. Antidepressants and Bipolar Disorder: What Do Recent Studies Tell Us?

(PSYCHIATRIC TIMES) - The Islamic philosopher and physician Abu'l-Walid Ibn Rushd, better known as Averroës, said that the art of healing requires "the acquisition of universal principles . . . coupled with prolonged experience."1 In this article, we review some of the recent research on the use of antidepressants in bipolar disorder (BD), and we also discuss briefly the methodologic principles that should guide us in this aspect of psychopharmacology. FDA Panel: No Black Box Warning for ADHD Drugs

(PSYCHIATRIC TIMES) - Moving with decidedly unbureaucratic swiftness, an FDA advisory panel has reversed an earlier call by another committee for restrictive black box labeling on medications prescribed for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

"Do parents need to worry about the risks? In a word, no," said Robert W. Nelson, MD, chair of the FDA's Pediatric Advisory Committee, at the end of the committee's March meeting at which it called for improved… Continue
